Alice Klara Meier
September 13, 1923 – September 28, 2015
Alice passed away peacefully at the age of 92 leaving her four children Werner (Chris) Meier, Heidi Meier (Richard Murphy), Fred (Jennifer) Meier, Helen (Terry) Hock, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren forever grateful for her selfless devotion to their well-being, success and happiness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Erich Meier, and 8 of her 12 siblings.
Raised on a farm in northern Switzerland, her venture to America in 1947 resulted in her meeting her future husband, Erich, while aboard the ship. They traveled to Switzerland in 1949 for their wedding, but returned to the USA to begin their married life. Always supportive of Erich’s enterprising spirit, she agreed to return to southern Switzerland in 1960 with 3½ children in tow to start a business. Interestingly the older children quickly adopted the local tongue, Italian, and would communicate among themselves in a language never understood by their parents. Eighteen months later, they once again returned to the USA, (Livonia, MI) where they lived and raised their family.
She and Erich shared a wanderlust that lasted throughout their lives. Aside from regular trips back to Switzerland, their travels included most states, Tahiti, Far East, Mexico and multiple cruises.
Alice was the consummate homemaker and hostess, her kitchen producing 5 star meals on a daily basis and open continually to friends and neighbors. Her home was known as the place where you were always fed, regardless whether you were hungry or not. Her culinary skills enabled her to convert leftovers into a feast. Her knitting and sewing skills were extraordinary as well, providing remarkable attire for kids and grandkids alike.
She taught her family the love of God, church, family, crafts, cooking, nature and serving others. Her lifetime devotion to her family and friends will be forever missed now that she has rejoined her many friends and family members who have preceded her into heaven.
