Catherine A (McGuigan) Carignan

July 12, 1934 ~ May 4, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Catherine Ann (McGuigan) Carignan

82, of Redford Twp, MI, passed away into the serenity of her eternal rest on 4 May 2017 at Oakwood Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, MI. Catherine was born 12 July 1934, 3rd of a family of 8 children, in Gladstone, Michigan to the late Bruce and Lillian (Johnson) McGuigan. Of her siblings, 3 have preceded her in death: James Louis, Bruce Frederick and Mary Eileen. Her surviving siblings are Thomas Bernard (Marguerite) of Escanaba, Margaret Rose (Gerald -d) of Escanaba, Vi of Bay View, WI, and John Charles (Fumiko) of Colorado Springs, CO. At the age of 17 years Catherine married the late Norbert E Carignan and together they had 10 children.  She is survived by her cherished husband Robert. However, Catherine was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen, in 1956 and a son, Gerard, in 2009. She is survived by: Daniel (Daisy) of Northville, MI (4 grndchildren and 14 grtgrands), Denice of Northville, MI (3 grdchildren and 3 grtgrands), David (Elizabeth) of Livonia, MI (3 grnds and 9 grtgrands), Larry (Carol) of Livonia (3 grdchildren and 3 grtgrands), Mercedia (David) of Shell, WI (3 grandchildren), Sandra (Russel -d) of Marietta, GA, (3 grndchildren), Karen (Joe) of De Pere, WI (3 grndchildren) and Michelle (Kenton) of Livonia, MI (2 grndchildren). In 1970 Norbert tragically drowned in an boating accident off Gladstones Little Bay De Noc and Catherine was left to contend with raising a very large family as a single parent. Then on 20 June 1974 Catherine married Robert Carignan and moved the family to Pueblo, Colorado. Throughout her life she experienced many difficulties always remaining a women of great Catholic faith and deep love. She loved to read, go to garage sales, and she inherited her own mother's passion for playing 500 rummy. Most of all, love of family was the mainspring in her life, and that eventually lead her to move to Southeast Michigan where she could remain close to the greatest number of her children. Catherine always seemed especially radiant during those times when she could be in the company of her own children and their families, and, though she lead a relatively simple life, having had her loving presence in the world will most certainly continue to radiate out for many generations to come.

Catherine's family would like to thank all those who have been a part of her life large and small. We especially want to express now our appreciation for care that was so graciously shown to Catherine and her family by the Heart & Vascular Care staff at Oakwood Beaumont Hospital. Such thoughtful kindness and diligence will not be soon forgotten.
