Howard Lee Neal, age 84, passed away March 25, 2017 at his home in Livonia, Michigan, surrounded by family and friends.
Howard was born on July 8, 1932 in Macedonia, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Payne Neal and his father Eual Neal. Howard graduated from Benton High School in Benton, Illinois in 1950. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Illinois - Champaign. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was in the Anti-Aircraft and Guided Missile Branch and was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas and at Balboa, Panama. Howard worked as computer instructor at Burroughs Corp. and as computer specialist at the Internal Revenue Service.
Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years: Mildred Louise.
Five children: Evan (Lydia), Linda (Jim) Krumpelman, Jennie (Tim) Hoffmann, Perry (Anastasia), and Doris (Vincent) Van Tiem.
Eight grandchildren: Austin and Arroll Krumpelman, Perry James Neal, Collin, Mandy and Spencer Hoffmann, Raya and Mila Neal.
Brother: Curtis (Carol) Neal of East Wenatchee, Washington.
Viewing and service for the family was held at
Fred Wood Funeral Home, Livonia, Michigan
on March 30, 2017.
Burial was in Phillips Cemetery, Ewing, Illinois
on March 31, 2017.
Howard held multiple track records at Benton High School. He was precinct delegate for the Republican Party. He was family handyman in auto repair, and plumbing. Howard enjoyed feeding the birds and raising monarch butterflies. He will be fondly remembered as a proponent of eating healthy foods. Howard worked hard to provide for his family. He will be deeply missed as husband, father, grandfather and friend.
