Phyllis Diane Snow (nee: Funk)
Age 83 of Grosse Pointe Farms, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024 at Fairmont
Senior Living in Northville. Phyllis was born in Detroit on April 5, 1940 to George and Angeline Funk.
Phyllis grew up in Detroit, attending Cass Technical High School, and graduating from the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in winter of 1963, the first in her family to do so. Phyllis
was a proud founding member of Michigan Opera Theater (now Detroit Opera), worked for
and was heavily involved with supporting the growing opera company for most of her life.
Phyllis graduated from the Detroit College of Law in 1986, and spent the next 16 years of her
career as a research attorney with the Michigan Court of Appeals, before retiring in 2002.
She enjoyed time with family and friends, attending opera performances in Detroit and all over
the country, running, and bicycling. She had a deep interest in what others had to say, and
loved to learn about, and from, most everyone she encountered.
Phyllis is survived by her beloved brother Wayne (Marilyn) Funk of Washington Twp., her
beloved children Jonathan (Marianne) of Troy, Jennifer (John Kennedy) of Farmington Hills,
George (Tamara) of Rochester Hills, her cherished grandson Harrison and step grandsons
Corey and Adam (Emily), great-grandson Leo the Lion, her former husband Neil (Barbara)
Snow of Hilton Head, SC., along with many nieces and nephews now spanning multiple
generations. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, George and Angeline, her
darling golden retriever Kirby, and dear friends Mary Webster, William Gillespie, and Dr. Stuart Young.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
