Alice Miller


Born on February 10, 1923 in Wyandotte, Michigan, passed away on November 10, 2024. She was the daughter of the late William F. Block and Lily nee Pomeraning.  She graduated from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan and the University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was an elementary school teacher at Chormann School in Southgate, Michigan and Alger, Alexander and Huff schools in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She is a member of the MEA and MARSP. 

In retirement, she volunteered as a Consultant for the Adult Literacy Program in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  She was active in her parish, Peace Lutheran (now Unity Lutheran) in Southgate, Michigan as Coordinator of the Sunday School, Choir Director and auxiliary organizations. She served as Chairman of the Detroit Suburban West zone of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  In 1970, she and her husband, the late Rev. Robert S. Miller, moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Pastor Miller served St. James Lutheran Church. 

After retirement in 1984, she moved to Yardley, Pennsylvania where they lived until 1996.  She then moved to Lutheran Haven, Oviedo, Florida and most recently lived in Norfolk, Virginia.

She is survived by her three children, The Rev. Dr. Marcus J. Miller and wife Katherine of Huntersville, North Carolina; Dr. Jonathan Miller and wife Barbara of Norfolk, Virginia; and Paula Miller Anderson and husband Richard of Dagsboro, Delaware.

She will also be remembered by her grandchildren and their families, Jennifer Erickson, Joshua Miller, Alicia Anderson, Erin Anderson, Kimberly Van Driel, and Elisabeth Joyce. 

The Committal Service will be held

1:00pm on December 3, 2024
