August Kornowicz, Age 91 of Redford, went home to be with our Lord on November 12, 2025. Cherished husband of Faith for 65 loving years. Beloved father of Kathy (Ben) Abela, Carl, and Stephanie. Grandpa to Michael and Megan Abela. Brother-in-law to Carol McCarthy.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, August devoted his life to service both to his country and to his community. He proudly served three years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and commitment.
Following his military service, August continued to serve others in many ways. He volunteered with the East Windsor Fire Department and later became a Reserve Officer with the Livonia Police Department. His professional career spanned 42 years with General Motors, where he rose to the position of Senior Service Manager. His work took him from New York City to Detroit, Michigan, to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and finally back to Detroit, Michigan where he retired with distinction.
In retirement, August remained deeply engaged in community and faith. He served as President of Redford Interfaith Relief and the Redford Senior Club, and as a Deacon at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. He was also an active member of the Redford VFW Club and maintained a strong interest in local government.
Throughout his life, August exemplified dedication, leadership, and compassion, a man who found fulfillment in service and friendship wherever he went. He will be missed by many loving family members and friends.
