Broderick "Rick" Allie

Rick Allie, of Livonia, died Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the age of 69. Rick had put up a strong fight against multiple strokes for nearly 10 years. He would have turned 70 in April.

Rick and his wife, Carol, grew up in Berkley and married in 1973. They were married for 48 years. The pair had one child, Dan, daughter-in-law, Jamie, and 3 grandchildren, Izabella, Aubree, and Evan.

Rick and Carol enjoyed road trips and had traveled to 49 of the 50 states. Yearly summer trips with Dan, Jamie and the grandkids were never missed. Sometimes traveling “Up North” to Platte Lake. Most often, Carol, would choose the warmer climates by the ocean.

Rick was born in Detroit to Bill and Birdetta Allie and is the youngest of 5 boys (Bill, Leo, John, Alex). The family moved to Berkley when he was in the 6th grade. This was just in time for Rick to discover his love of Ford muscle cars cruising along Woodward Avenue. He would sometimes borrow his brother’s cars to cruise.

Rick is survived by his brother Alex. He also has many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. The Allie family always enjoyed getting together for food. Backyard bbq’s at Bill’s house on the lake, Leo’s house for Lebanese food, and Amico’s Pizza with John. Rick had a special tradition with his brother Alex, the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Rick loved Carol’s sisters, Donna, Linda and Janice (PeeWee), as if they were his own. They thought of him as a brother, and even like a father after they lost their parents at a young age. They looked forward to his Lebanese style rice and meat on Christmas. Rick was always willing to help if they ever needed him. He is also survived by his niece, nephews and Donna’s husband Bill.

Even towards the end, he would tell Carol how much fun he had with two of her sisters in Florida. He traveled with his good friend to see them. They took him to all of his favorites, Sonny’s BBQ, and souvenir shopping for the grand-kids. He even checked out the spring training stadium for his favorite baseball team, the Detroit Tigers.

Rick was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to so many. He not only enjoyed building up the small block in his Ford Falcon, he worked for years helping friends and family with car repairs. Rick had worked in auto parts from an early age and even owned his own auto parts store called Allie’s Auto with Carol.

The three most important people in his life called him Papa or his nickname Punkin. Papa even got to meet both of the girl’s boyfriends. He looked forward to waffles with them on the weekends. Izzy’s boyfriend Mark always took care of Papa with a special pizza delivery.

The grand-kids all took care of Papa. Summers will always be thought of for Boston Coolers and the occasional Slurpee run from 7-11. Papa will always be loved and forever missed. He will always be looking over the kids.

As photos, stories and memories of Rick’s life are talked about. They are peeled back like an onion. So many layers to fit into a few paragraphs. Coincidentally, he preferred his onions well done and on sliders from places like Greene’s Hamburgers, Bates and the now closed A & G in Detroit. He loved to meet the guys from work for lunch even after his retirement from Pat Milliken Ford in 2018.

Due to Covid, a Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date and location to be determined.
