Cleo “Geri” Geraldine Barbati, of Dearborn Heights, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13. She was 86. Geri died peacefully at St. Mary’s hospital in Livonia with her two sons and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born in Lincoln, Texas, and raised on the family farm near Lincoln. Geri met her ex-husband, Arthur, while he was in the U.S. Air Force stationed near Austin during the Korean War then they married and moved to Detroit. Geri was a retired nurse’s aide from the State of Michigan at Northville Mental Institute. Prior to that she worked at Plymouth Center for mentally challenged, blind, deaf and disabled children. She loved working with children and her adult patients. Geri enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants as well as sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. She was famous for her fresh baked pies and bread. Geri loved animals that included her since deceased dogs, Peanuts and Oliver, as well as her four cats. She also enjoyed reading the local newspapers and loved reading a plethora of novels.
Beloved daughter of the late Adolph and Ella (nee: Hoffman) Saegert of Texas. Dearest sister to the late Daniel Saegert of Texas, Norma Saenger of Texas; and her late ex-husband Arthur Barbati of Highland Township, Michigan. Cherished mom of Brian (Anna) and Duane. Proud grandma of Christine (Brandon) Halliday. Loving GG of Christian, Cailey and Christopher. Dear aunt of Greg (Ann) Gibbs and great aunt of Alec and Emily Gibbs. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins living in Texas.
