David Oke Obituary

David S. Oke, age 55, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of September 29, 2025, with loved ones by his side. David was the beloved husband of Peggy for 26 years. He was the cherished son of Stuart and the late Linda Lee Oke and was dearly loved by his brother Matthew Oke and partner Joelle as well as his in-laws: Stephen and the late Jeanne Gierak; Linda and Anthony Giorgio; Stephen and Mary Gierak; the late Susan Gierak- Gienapp; Amy Gierak and Lori Pasterski; Betsey and Michael Kastner; and Nancy Gierak-Taggart. David is also survived and loved by his uncles, aunts, and cousins. “Uncle Dave” was a favorite of his nieces and nephews: Logan Oke; Stephen and Erin Giorgio (Everett, Emerson, and Eloise), Nicholas and Liza Giorgio (Rose and Santino); Christopher Gierak and Jill Sadler (Emerson), Rachel Gierak and Andres Pernia, Chad and Caitie Gierak (Colton), Angela and Nicholas Passarelli (Sophia), Nicholas and Breanna Gierak; Adam and Jess Gienapp, Alyssa Gienapp (Brooklynn and Branden); Michelle Kastner, Melissa and Ryan Guffey (Fiona), Matthew and Julianne Kastner; Tristan Taggart, and Brendan Taggart.

David graduated from Wayne Memorial High School where he was a popular member of the school’s marching band. After graduation he attended Ferris State University where he studied Criminal Justice, then Computer Information Systems. David used this knowledge and worked in IT for many years but found his calling working for the Department of Homeland Security as a TSA employee. He started his career with TSA as a Transportation Security Officer and was later promoted to Instructor where he mentored and guided many new officers. He advanced to the role of Inspector and ultimately was selected to be part of TSA’s newly-formed cyber security team.

David was always active with his church. At Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church, David served as an elder, directed their Boars Head Festival, sang in the choir, and was very active with youth ministries. At Ward Church he served on the media team for several years before becoming their first Director of Campus Security. David was cherished by his family, friends, and co-workers. Those who knew David noticed his friendliness, acceptance, and cheerful demeanor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
