Our Mom was a blessed woman and in turn she blessed so many others.  Eva Elizabeth Wesman, 94, was a child of God and went to be with her heavenly Father, on Sunday, August 22, 2021. She was born in Ewen, Michigan, May 7, 1927, to the late Selma S. Dutcher and Royce E. Dutcher.  She was preceded in death by her husband Niilo, the love of her life, as well as her four sisters, Susan Carlson, Violet Wesman, Viola Carlisle, and Ethel Carlisle.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Nancy J. Mead and Judy A. Vaughn.

Grandsons, Tom Mead and his daughter Luna, Jeffrey Ray, his wife Charlene, and daughters Nicole (Ben), Kendra (Alex) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Eva graduated from Michigamme High School, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Soon after her eighteenth birthday she began her personal adventure, in search of a new life and career, in Detroit.  She traveled by train and upon her arrival she was greeted by her sister Viola, and her husband, at the station.  Our Father, who was home from the Air Force on leave and visiting his brother, accompanied them as part of the welcoming committee.  It was love at first sight and hand holding was know to happen that day. Eva and Niilo were married February 1, 1945 and were happily married until Niilo’s death in 1972.

Eva was an active member of West Chicago Baptist Church and in her later years Berean Baptist Church. She severed as a Deconess, taught Sunday school, was active in Pioneer Girls and created many wonderful memories for us at Lake Ann Bible Camp every summer. She was an awesome Mom, always guiding, teaching and giving of herself.

Mom introduced many of her friends to the National Parks and invited them to travel with her as their guide. She traveled extensively to every state but Hawaii, and most National Parks at least once. She was always up for an adventure and loved to marvel at the  wondrous beauty of God’s creation.

Everyone, in our family, knew her as Gram and she cherished that role with her grandsons and their families. As adults, it has been a true privilege for them to be at her side, caring for her, during her last months with us as a family.

A memorial service will be held at Berean Baptist Church, Livonia, Michigan on, Thursday August 26, 2021, at 2:00PM.  Burial will be at the Ewen Cemetery, Ewen, Michigan, next to her Sweetheart. Rest in peace Mom, we love you and we will miss you.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to the Hospice of your choice.
