George (Ed) Dobson
Age 82 of Livonia, went home to be with our lord January 25, 2025. Beloved husband of Judy for over 63 years. Loving father of Ed (Teri) Dobson, and Beth (Joe) Fournier. Dear grandpa of Sarah (Dean) Walrack, Ian Zimmer, and Thomas Fournier. Cherished great-grandpa of Eliza Zimmer. Dearest brother of Bill Dobson. He was preceded in death by his parents George & Anna (Williams) Dobson.
George attended Cooley High School, Detroit, before he began his career as a hair stylist on Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion, at Continental Hair Salon. He served his many cherished client’s for numerous years at Emile’s of Beverly Hills. Early in his career he styled Diana Ross as a rising starlet. Later, he would style Doris Day and Brenda Lee during their Detroit appearances. He truly enjoyed the process of knowing a person and lightening their day.
George had a passion for fishing and camping. These passions brought him closer to family and friends. He had many trophies, stories and memories surrounding the various trips with the mini-motorhome and boat(s). Later he and Judy would travel to many states, where he never knew a stranger. These experiences enhanced his life and sustained him until his passing.
George will be remembered for always having a joke as a catalyst for connection. This served him and others well. As an active member of Newburg United Methodist Church, he served as a trustee, finance chair, and an engaging salesman at the church rummage sales.
George was particularly proud of acquiring salesman samples of winter coats, or offering haircuts to homeless guests of the rotating shelter collaboration between Cass Corridor United Methodist, Newburg United Methodist and other faith communities. He was also instrumental in the initiation of the UMYF youth of Newburg visiting Temple Beth Israel Synagogue and learning of the traditions shared with Judaism.
