Helen Ann Evers, a devoted Mother and cherished family member, peacefully passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 101. Helen was a beautiful soul, full of kindness, generosity and compassion who always put others before herself. Helen was positive, supportive and full of laughter, easily raising the spirits of those around her. She was truly loved by all who knew her.
Survived by her daughters Marilyn Evers and Denise Evers (David Weld), nieces and nephews, as well as great (and great great) nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Gale Evers, her parents, Michael and Anna Yandora, siblings John Yandora (Marie), Andy Yandora (Rose), Sophie Hoprick (Walter), Emil Yandora, and all family members who have passed before her.
Helen was born on August 25, 1924 in Glen Robbins, Ohio. A true coal miner’s daughter, Helen lived through the depression and experienced a truly humble beginning. Helen was a star high school softball athlete in 1942, labeled “slugger” after her homer, triple and a double in one game. After graduating High School in 1942 she moved to Detroit MI to be with her sister Sophie, where she became a “Rosie the Riveter” working on airplane wings to support our troops. Helen married Gale Evers in 1949 and had two daughters Marilyn and Denise. Helen was their devoted Mother, homemaker and caretaker. Helen hosted family dinners with her famous slivers of pie, neighborhood recitals, volunteering for school events, taking care of family and neighbors, and hosting 3 nephews moving to Michigan. She enjoyed carnival rides, cheering for the Detroit Tigers, bowling (part of the 225 club!), playing cards, going to church, praying the rosary, traveling with her daughters, making teddy bears, watching General Hospital, and later in life doing word search puzzles. Helen loved animals, particularly cats, and in her later years she adopted 6 kitties, who brought her so much joy. Helen loved to laugh and had an infectious giggle, she always believed laughter was the best medicine.
Helen was a cherished family member and friend, and will be lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her. As Helen used to say, love you more!
