Janet Lamb Obituary

Janet Lamb, Age 93 of Livonia, passed away on February 24, 2026.

Janet was born on September 27, 1932, in Oak Park, Illinois to Geneva (née Arensman) and Fred Long. Her parents made every effort and sacrifice to raise her and her two siblings with a deep love of God, education, music, and her family and friends. These bedrock beliefs resounded with everything she believed and did throughout her whole life.

Until she went away to college in 1950, her early life in Oak Park was mainly centered around family life, church activities, and summers spent on the farm her mother was born on in Metropolis, Illinois. After high school, she attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College (now Northern Illinois University) for two years, then on to Michigan State University to complete her studies as a Home Economics teacher. In these brief years, she made dear, life-long friends. These friends would come to have a profound influence on her life, not the least of which included an introduction to her future husband, Terence Lamb. They were married on April 13, 1957, and were married until his passing in 2015.

Janet was the loving and devoted wife of Terence Lamb, and mother of Tim and Dave. She is predeceased by her sister, Eleanor and brother, Bill.

Janet taught school until her first son, Tim, was born thus dedicating her life to her family’s needs. She taught Sunday school for many years, leaving “vivid” memories of her character with those she influenced. Her love of music, in her own words, was described as “a gift from God.” From an early age, she was accomplished on the piano to the degree she could accompany a choir. Her reverence for this country was nearly as powerful and she felt blessed she had the opportunity to see and experience so much of it. Janet and Terry spent many summers with their family on Put-In-Bay, Ohio. Janet spent the last few years at Woodhaven Retirement Community where she was well-loved by her caregivers. Above all, Janet treasured her family, friends, and all the people in her life. Please remember her through your experiences with her.

Janet had a deep concern for the suffering of others and would be most honored in memory by a contribution to the charity of your choice.
