Mary Lou Cichy Obituary

Mary Lou Cichy,

Passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1945, to her parents Joseph and Frances Hopkins. Beloved wife of Richard Cichy for 58.5 wonderful years. Loving mother of Denise Khalaf and Matthew Cichy. Cherished grandmother of Hailee (Nicholas) Scicluna, Meghan Khalaf, Devon Cichy, Jacob Cichy, and Luke Cichy. Dearest mother-in-law of Kosta “Gus” Khalaf. Dear sister of Kathleen (Ron) Hicks and the late Carol Vande Laare, Joan Keegan, Joseph Hopkins Jr., and Billy Hopkins. Mary Lou leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.

Mary Lou’s journey in love began when she met her future husband Richard, at Ford Motor Company in 1965. Their connection was instantaneous, culminating in their marriage on July 22, 1966. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. Their partnership was one of unwavering strength, and they faced life’s challenges hand in hand.

Mary Lou was known for her taking charge attitude. “The Boss,” a title that reflected her strong spirit and vibrant personality. Her presence brought laughter and warmth to every gathering, and her love for Christmas was legendary. The holiday season was a time for Mary Lou to shine, as she transformed her home into a festive wonderland filled with joy and cheer.

In addition to her passion for the holidays, she had a deep love for cooking. Many will remember her delicious meals and the care she put into every dish. She also had a soft spot for shopping, particularly on QVC, where she enjoyed finding new treasures and sharing them with those she loved.  She loved to travel, especially to Hilton Head, her favorite travel destination since 1995.

In loving memory of Mary Lou, memorial contributions may be directed to the Angela Hospice Care Center.
