Nicholas "Mykola" Prytula Obituary
Mykola Prytula, age 88, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mykola was born on May 15, 1938 in Zvenyhorodka, Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine. His family survived WW2 and found refuge in a Displaced Persons Camp overseen by the Commonwealth. After the war, they immigrated to Canada and made their new home in Hamilton, Ontario. He was an avid athlete, played soccer and hockey in Ukrainian sports leagues, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.
Mykola was a skilled automotive millwright and apprenticed in Canada. His skills were highly valued for the Detroit auto industry and he moved to the US for a career at Ford Motor Company. He was also an integral member and generous supporter of St. Mary's Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and the Ukrainian community.
He is preceded in death by his father Alexander and mother Anastasia, sister Tanya and brother Stephan.
He is survived by his wife, Halyna, daughters Natalie, Lisa and Clarissa. Mykola's grandchildren, Alexandra (Jason Baker), Stephanie and Gabriel were the joy of his later years.
Our deepest gratitude is extended to Residential Hospice for providing exceptional hospice care at home.
Panachyda will be held on Friday, June 5 at 7pm at St. Mary's Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Southfield and funeral services on Saturday, June 6 at 11am. Internment to follow at Parkview Cemetery, Livonia.
