Peter J. Moloney

Peter John Moloney, age 95, passed away peacefully, September 28, 2022, at his home in Livonia. Born and raised in Detroit to Peter Joseph and Edith Moloney, Peter was a former math teacher and research specialist with Livonia Public Schools for 27 years. After retiring from the district he became an associate mathematics professor at Madonna University in Livonia. He also ran multiple test centers over the years for people of all ages. Remembering his famous announcement to the room supervisors as he yelled down the hall “go ahead and start!” still brings joy and smiles to those who worked with him. 

His education is long and impressive. He received both BS and MA degrees as well as a specialist degree. His studies included Jesuit Seminary Studies in Ohio, Philosophy education in Indiana, a teaching tenure at St. Ignatius in Chicago, religious studies in Chicago and Washington DC, and master’s degrees in mathematics and Latin at the University of Detroit. 

Peter loved to travel and camped his way across the US. He was an excellent pianist and enjoyed participating at his church as a choir member, eucharistic minister, and lector. But his greatest passion was his loving family.

Peter is survived by his wife Elaine of 52 years; children Kathy (Steve) Crampton , Mary Pat (Charles) Benoit , Margaret (Eric) Malburg, Larry (Robin) Moloney, Sheila (Ric) Mixter, Edward (Lisa) Moloney, Barbara (Dan) Mixter, Thomas Moloney, Michael (Angela) Moloney, Teresa (Jeff) Bos, Karen (Tim) Russell, and Angela (Bill Alt) Moloney; Proud grandparent to Adam, Lucas, Leah, Garret, Max, Sondra, Tara, Dustin, Dylan, Ryan, Megan, Katie, Jamie, Corey, Alex, Sarah, Renee, Reagan, Eddie, Melissa, Christopher, Matthew, Rachel, Jack, Riley, Brennen, Aidan, Mason, Jacob, and Patrick; and, great-grandpa to Hannah, Aria, Charlotte, Claire, and Finn. He is also survived by brothers Monsignor James A. Moloney and Larry Moloney. He was preceded in death by Ann (Greening) Moloney and twin brothers Perry and Paul Moloney.
