Ronald “Ronbo” Proudlock. Age 71 of Westland. Cherished husband of Kathy Melton. Loving father of Wendy (Jim) Smith, Chris (April), Tessa (Paul) Beroff and Steve Buhovecky. Proud grandpa Ronbo of Samantha, Jimmy, Josh, Sydney, Addison, Corey and Shaina and great-grandpa of Kira Lynn. Dearest brother of Pam (Tim) Reeves, Stan (Jean) and the late Greg. Dearest brother-in-law of Barb Proudlock. Also survived by many other loving family and friends.

After graduating from Garden City Highschool in 1966, Ronbo attended Northern Michigan University for one year. He worked at Ford Motor Company before he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served his country as a Military Police Officer stationed in Germany for two years.
In 1970 he joined the Livonia Police Department and proudly served the community as a police officer for 28 years. During his career in Livonia, Ron was involved in a variety of bureaus; including surveillance and patrol. He was one of the first Livonia police officers to attend SWAT school at Quantico in 1974. He continued to share his knowledge and passion for special weapons as a SWAT instructor until he retired in 1998.
For over 30 years, Ronbo was an icon in law enforcement training. He trained thousands of police recruits at the Detroit Police Academy and at the Wayne County Regional Police Academy. He shared his expertise in defensive tactics and firearms until he retired at the age of 71.
Throughout his lifetime he studied karate, was a competitive pistol shooter, played golf, enjoyed vacationing in Florida, and was a Jeep enthusiast, and was an avid reader.
Ron’s family has created the Ron Proudlock Memorial Award through the Schoolcraft College Foundation. This award will be given to future recruits of the Wayne County Regional Police Academy who excel in the areas of defensive tactics and firearms training.
