Fred Wood Funeral Home Rice-Modetz began serving the community in 1927 in the care of Fred Wood (1895-1949) at 8450 Plymouth Road in Detroit. In 1949 Fred Wood unexpectedly passed away. His funeral directors Robert Rice and Gerald Rackey (1917-1997) soon took over operations and ownership. In 1972, Robert Rice was sole owner of the funeral home and moved the funeral home to our current location in Livonia naming it Fred Wood Funeral Home Rice-Modetz, keeping the legacy of Fred Wood in the forefront. In 2002 Robert Rice passed away and left Fred Wood Funeral Home Rice-Modetz in the loving care of his sons, Park and Ronald Rice. Since 1927 Fred Wood Funeral Home Rice-Modetz has been proud to be family owned and operated. It has been our goal from the beginning to provide compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional service. Remaining family owned and operated, and part of the community throughout our history has helped us to exceed our goal.
